Hawley Kitchen

Four Lymes, a pub on a good site in Dartford, had already been refused. Lizben Consult was recommended in and secured approval — internal remodelling for a new kitchen and dining area, a new steel staircase to the residential unit above, and a landscape scheme. It is now Hawley Kitchen.

Called in after a refusal

Lizben Consult was called in on recommendation to assist in obtaining planning permission for this project, having received an initial refusal.

A refusal is useful information. It is a written account of what the authority objected to, and it makes the second attempt considerably better informed than the first — provided the objections are genuinely addressed rather than argued with.

What the scheme involved

The project was interesting in scope as well as in circumstance: a landscape scheme to design alongside a substantial amount of internal remodelling to accommodate a new kitchen and dining area, plus the introduction of a new steel staircase serving the residential unit above the existing pub.

Permission was granted under reference DA/15/01435/FUL. The building now trades as Hawley Kitchen.
